That is what most people think, but it is far more complicated than that. There are many races and cultures in this world and not ever counselor may understand what their client is talking about. It is important for a counselor to fully understand a client’s background, culture and family life. A white counselor may not feel comfortable with a black client when the client is talking badly about how he or she feels about white people. That is why it is important for a counselor and client to have a respectful understanding. It is important to be open minded when counselor someone of the opposite race.
